City Of Carson is Hiring a CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER Near Carson, CA

JOB
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Code Enforcement Supervisor, enforces provisions of the City's Municipal Code including, but not limited to, zoning laws and health and safety codes, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) compliance; performs inspections and searches, issues citations, notices, and orders and responds to related complaints and questions. The Code Compliance Officer is the journey-level classification in the two-level job series. The Code Compliance Officer performs difficult and complex code enforcement responsibilities that include NPDES duties, which require substantial knowledge of City municipal code regulations and NPDES.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
These functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind related duties and work assignments.Enforces municipal code regulations, including but not limited to, public peace, sanitation and health, taxes and licenses, streets, building and planning, and zoning ordinances.Receives complaints concerning code enforcement from the public and other departments by telephone or correspondence; investigates complaints of public nuisances and code violations.Performs field checks of contractors and subcontractors for proper licenses or permits; reviews building permit applications to determine that buildings, adjacent structures, and land usage are in conformity with health and safety regulations.Writes citations for violations and performs office follow-up work on citations as required; prepares complaints for filing.Assists in prosecuting cases involving municipal code violations and gives testimony in court; explains and interprets municipal ordinances and other regulations as needed; interfaces with community and governmental agencies as required.Answers questions and provides information to the public concerning topics related to code enforcement.Prepares and maintains a variety of files and prepares reports as required.Serves on primary emergency response team in case of emergency or disaster in a position assigned by the City emergency plan.Posts legal notices and delivers City Council agendas and other legal documents.Performs security patrol of activities at municipal facilities and public meetings to coordinate duties with law enforcement agencies.Conducts inspections at a variety of facilities and locations for visible NPDES violations and initiate action to facilitate voluntary compliance.Conducts inspections of local businesses and industrial properties to ensure compliance with applicable MS4 permit, licensing requirements, and applicable regulations.Gathers evidence and recommend action related to NPDES not in compliance with MS4 permit requirements.Provides information and NPDES best management practices to property and business owners.Performs related duties as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Supplemental questionnaires are used to evaluate the applicant’s indicated abilities with the ideal candidate profile. Applicants must achieve a cut-off score of 70% or above on the oral examination to be placed on the eligibility list. Passing any and/or all does not guarantee an invitation to the selection interview. The Human Resources Department reserves the right to invite those amongst the highest scoring to the next phase of the recruitment.Revisions to a testing component during a recruitment process can be made at the discretion of the Human Resources Department.
